A surprisingly modern sounding band and not at all in the expected Dixieland style. The London recording date (not shown in the sleeve notes) was 8 October 1956.
Just listen to pianist Pat Hawes doing his 'Basie' thing in the introduction to 'Feather Merchant' and in his subsequent solo. One for grumpy perhaps. Very enjoyable.
