0409 Tubby Hayes [Big Band] FLAC 11(43.57)

Contributed by azule serape who obtained it from an anonymous donor. He writes:-
The recording to tape from an old AM radio was transferred from a reel-to-reel tape that had spent 40 years in Summer temperatures that regularly exceeded 40C. It had also been submerged in a flood so the sound is far from perfect although some restoration has been undertaken to remove the worst excesses.
There is some alarming tape wow and drop out in places and the original overall tape speed appears to suffer from variations too. But the leader comes through loud and clear and is in exceptional form.
Alan Dell is the announcer.
Presented as FLAC files here although the originals cannot be vouched for.
Personnel details and a 'cover' picture are provided.

0405 Stan Tracey [With Love From Jazz] FLAC 8(42.02)

Contributed by bluebird, who writes:-
A 1967 date from the Quartet, with the individual sound of Bobby Wellins, in a programme of Tracey originals.
Stan makes an appearance on vibes on one track, an instrument he rarely played after leaving the Ted Heath Band.
Bobby all but disappeared off the music scene for the next ten years after this recording, leaving behind the pressures and drug problems in London for the South coast. He has referred to this period as his 'dark days'.
But he came back in the late 1970s and is now playing (and still recording) as well as, if not better than, ever.

0401 Kathy Stobart [The Kathleen Stobart Orchestra] WAV 2(5.03)

Contributed by bluebird, who writes:-

Florence Kathleen (Kathy) Stobart
1 April 1925 - 5 July 2014

Kathy Stobart, a fine saxophonist, and an earlier pioneer in gaining the acceptance of women in Jazz, died on 5 July 2014 aged 89.
Kathy retired in 2004 after a long and varied career but maintained a keen interest in music and teaching up to the time of her death.
BritJazz wishes to add to the many tributes paid elsewhere by acknowledging her work and contribution to the world of British Jazz and music in general.
This music selection comes from an obscure and rare 78 rpm record featuring her Orchestra and one of two discs she recorded in 1951 for the small Manchester based label, Decibel.  It was her first date as leader and, surprisingly, she only recorded twice more as leader in her entire career.
But look at who was in this band and who were later to become much more well known.  Bert Courtley was her husband at the time.

0397 Ken Jones [Strike Up The Bard/Swinging The Bard] FLAC 11(35.11)

Contributed by bluebird, who writes:-
This is a rather odd sort of record.
One the one hand there is a swinging big band with some fine Shake Keane solos but on the other hand there is a consort of viols and a recorder consort accompanying Elaine Delmar (who sings on 5 tracks) and sometimes popping up with the big band.
Don't dismiss this because of the unusual orchestrations though, because there is some fine  music.  Unfortunately, Elaine's vocals are spoiled in many places because of the excessive sibilance which is a result of bad microphone placement in the original recordings. Despite our best efforts we are unable to remove this without destroying the music so, in the main, it has been left alone.
