0292 Bruce Turner and Sam Walker [Lyragon 78s] FLAC 4(10.22)

Contributed by bluebird, who writes:-
Now here's a pair of unusual 78s recorded in 1953 on the obscure UK Lyragon label which specialised in recording Calypso music by British based West Indian musicians and singers. It operated between 1952 and 1954 and all the records were issued on 10 78s.
One the first record (J 714) Bruce Turner is the nominal leader and plays a couple of standards. Jumping Sam Walker is featured on the second record (J 715) again playing standards with the same group of musicians and recorded on the same day. Nothing too exciting happens but they are musical oddities in the discographies of these two musicians.
Bruce Turner is of course well known but not Sam Walker. 'Jumping Sam' as he is listed here, is perhaps better known as tenor player Sammy Walker who recorded with Tony Crombie in 1954 and Dizzy Reece in 1955 and 1957.
No one seems to know what became of him after that last recording date but it is possible that he took up residency in Germany where he had made a few earlier recordings and where he had musical connections.
