0074 Kenny Baker [Kenny Baker and his Band] FLAC 2(5.20)
Contributed by delmonico, who writes:-
This is said to be Tubby's first recording date on 24 July 1951 and when he was briefly with the Kenny Baker Band. It was ripped from a Parlophone 78 rpm record, the only issue.
Can you hear Tubby Hayes? No, neither can I. In addition to Baker, the soloists are Vic Ash and Jimmy Skidmore.
For completists only but Baker had a great tone.
Ripped in FLAC from 78 rpm disc with personnel details and Band picture.
Kenny Baker - trumpet
Vic Ash - alto, clarinet
Jimmy Skidmore - tenor
Tubby Hayes - tenor
David Milne - piano
Alan McDonald - bass
Pete Brady - drums

Many thanks delmonico. Very difficult not to try to be a completist with the offerings here! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for this one delmonico.
ReplyDeleteKENNY BAKER 78
ReplyDeleteThanks for this 78! I wouldn't mind seeing more 78s here, since I suppose a lot of modern and other British jazz was released on them until circa mid-50s without having been reissued on LPs or CDs.
In this case I must however also say that I think the sound has been too noise-reduced, rendering it dead and showing signs of that under water effect that plagued early RCA CD reissues of vintage material. It is better to hear surface noise, but also hear all of the music contained in the grooves.
This is corrupt as well. Hope I dont bother you too much.

Jazzrealities - ditto the Kenton comment. Hope you can sort it out.
