0030 Lita Roza [Listening In The After Hours] FLAC 8(26.47)

Contributed by delmonico, who writes:-
A 1955 recording with the Quartet which includes Joe Harriott.  Lita sticks to the well known standards - she was never too adventurous in her few jazz outings after she left the Ted Heath band. Was she a jazz singer?  Perhaps.
Joe Harriott plays quite beautifully in his backing and solo spots and gives no indication of things to come in his later ground - breaking free form work.

Lita Roza - vocal
Joe Harriott - alto
Bill Le Sage - vibes, piano
Eric Dawson - bass
Tony Kinsey - drums

01 That Old Black Magic
02 Guilty
03 Don't Worry 'Bout Me
04 You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To
05 Too Marvellous for Words
06 I Don't Want to Walk Without You
07 The Nearness of You
08 You'll Never Know

  2. Many thanks for Lita Rosa with this great quartet. Perhaps she should have been more adventurous jazzwise...interesting!

  3. Great post, one of the best British singers and a treat to hear Harriott in this setting.

  5. Really good. Very pleased to hear thse Lita Rosa sides. She was someone I totally ignored back in the day (seemed far too showbizzy)but after hearing her version of 'Hey There' a year or so back I have become quite a convert. Once in a while the time comes when this is absolutely the right thing to listen to!
