0029 Frank Horrox [Jazz Session] FLAC 4(11.46)

Contributed by delmonico, who writes:-
Frank Horrox was the Ted Heath pianist throughout the 1950s and recorded only one other session under his own name. Here he is joined by Don Rendell on tenor and Albert Hall on trumpet playing four standards. It is thought that the recording dates from around 1959.
After leaving Heath, Horrox freelanced as pianist and arranger and he died in Germany in 1972.

Albert Hall - trumpet
Don Rendell - tenor
Frank Horrox - piano
Jeff Sothcott - bass
Don Lawson - drums

  2. Thanks. EPs are sadly missed. Something that filled the gap between singles and albums, when you couldn't afford those.
And you've got to love the name Albert Hall!

  3. Thanks for Frank Horrox, looks a rarity. Rendell on board can't be bad! Yep, I had a soft spot for EPs also. Cheers!

  5. For fans of the great Frank Horrox, here, from the Ted Heath 100th Palladium Sunday Concert in 1954, is his classic performance of David Rose’s “Our Waltz”:

  8. Thanks Mel.

Nice to hear a Frank Horrox feature with Ted Heath.
Heath had a great dance band filled with top jazzmen from time to time. Great band, nice uniforms, well paid, plenty of work but the jazzers complained that they had to play the same solo note for note every night.
They didn't stay long but it was great big band experience.
