ReplyDeleteMany thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this special album Rodney, I was still listening in awe to Gerry Mulligan at the time of this recording and listening to Ronnie's playing on "England's Carol" he was up there with him!
ReplyDeleteYes, Ronnie was greatly influenced by Gerry, Jazzman77, but how could he not be I guess. He said it wasn't until he encountered Gerry, in Paris in 1959 I believe it was, that he learned how to really fill the horn. This album made a year earlier of course but he was still doing okay I think.
DeleteThank you Rodney. Some superb playing by Ronnie Ross on this session. Not much John Lewis piano and the Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra isn't exactly a swinging outfit. This is really Ronnie's show. Enjoy!
