0272 Dudley Moore [The Theme From Beyond The Fringe & All That Jazz] FLAC 8(38.09)

Contributed by bluebird, who writes:-
This is Dudley's first jazz Trio album recorded in August 1962 with his long serving colleagues Peter McGurk on bass and Chris Karan on drums. Apart from Dudley's own 'Theme...' the tunes are all well known standards and a real treat to hear.
Dudley was a man of many parts;  pianist, writer/arranger of film music, comedian, singer, film star but  the handful of trio albums he made between 1962 and 1978 are the main interest for jazz fans. Sadly, very few have seen a cd re-issue but this is one of them.
FLAC from OOP cd with lp cover scans.

  1. Superb! I haven't even opened the file yet and I am delighted. I am a huge DMT fan but I haven't got hand or ear on this one before now.

It's a terrible thing that there hasn't been a proper reissue programme for all those great DMT recordings; I have been in touch several times with Martine Avenue in the US, apparent heirs to DM's musical oeuvre, and while they woffle on a lot about 'preserving his memory' and 'keeping his talent alive' and suchlike there's no indication that anything really sensible will happen, like the Big Box Set reissue with proper notes and outtakes and off-air recordings from the tv shows (some great stuff on Youtube) that is really required.

They ought to be bloody get on with it before its too late and people forget that DM was a musician of real quality, with a couple of excellent sidemen in Chris Karan and Pete McGurk.

  2. Excellent, BritJazz. And I agree with Greg, they need to get on with it and reissue the DMT items.

  6. DMT fans may be interested to know that there's a reissue of this set coming from EL, a subsidiary of British label Cherry Red. The downside is that it doesn't appear to be a straight reissue, but includes elements from 'Beyond the Fringe' itself, which is sorta kinda not what I (we?) want. But on the other hand, they're making the effort which is something. More than Martine Avenue can manage, with their munged-together unannotated reissues.

While I'm here I'll thank again Bluebird - I have enjoyed this set a very great deal indeed!
