Thanks for Zoot. Love the cover.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much. Zoot sounds great on this one -- relaxed but really diggin' in.
ReplyDeleteLove for Sale got the chop too, which is a great shame as the exchanges with Jackie Dougan on the original unedited version are top notch. Sad to say the Japanese facsimile mini-LP sleeve CD I bought repeats all the edits....
ReplyDeleteThank You
ReplyDeleteGeorge
Too bad about the edits, but it's great to have a chance to hear this.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Many thanx for this Zoot, BritJazz!! Always a joy to listen to him!!
ReplyDeleteHi, Jazz Master
ReplyDeleteI’d like to thank you again for all this wonderful albums and ask you something.
Do you know Dropbox? I think it could help you and everybody who visit your amazing blog.
Using Dropbox you would not have to upload your discs in Rapdshare and it would be much easier to download it.
I’m here to help you, if you need.
Thanks again,
Paulinho, your friend from Brazil.
@paulinho. Thanks for the suggestion - we are pondering the matter and will respond later.
ReplyDelete@paulinho. We have been trying to find out a bit more about Dropbox. It seems to be intended primarily for using one's own files while on the move between computers. Can you give a description of how you see it working in practice for this blog? Bear in mind that none of us have so far used Dropbox or anything like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this fine album. The wonderful sleeve brings back a lot of memories of that Fontana series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jazzman, good to have ANY Zoot, even if it has been chopped short by some ill advised engineer. I write this from Tasmania, so you don't get rid of me that easy.
ReplyDeleteGonz.
Better to have any Zoot at Ronnie's than no Zoot at all! The original Fontana LPs go for big prices. The last I saw was one at GBP75 and the other at GBP300 so someone has deep pockets. I guess the reviewer in The Gramophone was Alun Morgan. He ended up in Australia too Brisbane I think. A few of us around.
ReplyDeleteThank you VERY much.
Zoot Sims "Cookin" - "Autumn Leaves" also seems to have been pruned, it plays for 9:29 on the original Fontana "Solo For Zoot" LP (the track was posted on the londonjazzcollector.wordpress.com site on 20 February 2012) compared with 7:41 here.
ReplyDeleteThe playing times on "Cookin" are also different (usually by between ten and twenty seconds) to the versions on the Fresh Sounds CD "Zoot Sims - Live At Ronnie Scott's '61" - the Fresh Sounds tracks being even shorter than those on "Cookin".
But given that these tracks were recorded over several nights at Scott's it left me wondering whether we might be listening to different versions of the same tunes. However so far I haven't listened to the tracks hard enough to come to a view on this - and Alun Morgan who usually has a good ear for alternative versions didn't suggest it. But the music is still great - thanks a lot JM.
On the question of Dropbox, I use it a lot mainly to exchange files between various devices but also to share music files with friends and colleagues worldwide. It has almost - but not quite - replaced conventional postal trading. However, I have only seen it used on private music blogs as an alternative to Rapidshare etc. Maybe this is because a free Dropbox account gives you just 2 Gb storage space which is OK but would soon get used up if you have to keep the links up for an unspecified amount of time. A 50 Gb account costs - I think - $99 for a year. In summary, great for private use - you can also collaborate on shared files - but not so sure for a public blog use.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jazzjet. We try to keep things as simple as we can so it sounds like an unnecessary complication in that it would not replace RS. If folks have trouble with RS, they could always ask friends to download and then share via DB. No further word from Paulinho anyway.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, I have the Fresh Sound CD that includes Blues in E Flat instead of Desperation. I think that John is right, anyway are wonderful recordings.
ReplyDeleteA big THANK YOU !
