0225 Victor Feldman [First Recordings] FLAC 4(10.13)

Contributed by bellawoods, who comments:-
This is the Feldman Brothers band from 1944 with 10 year old Victor on drums making his recording debut.
As the included review states, these sides are mainly a showcase for young Victor's drumming and give an early indication of what was to come from this exceptionally talented musician.

Wow, where did these come from? They are not even mentioned in Lord!

According to the Victor Feldman London discograpy here, a fourth side, "Drummin' Man", was issued together with "Sweet Georgia Brown" on Parlophone F2050. Why is it not here? Has it been available somewhere else? Considering his reputatation as "Kid Krupa", one would certainly want to hear Feldman's take on "Drummin' Man"!

Drummin' Man is not here because we don't have it, chu. If anyone has Parlophone F2050, perhaps they would like to help us complete this item.

Amazing that a 10-year-old could play this well.

  12. I'm relaying a comment from one of the BritJazz "family" of contributors:-

"Well done that man. Now just how did he find that buried away there. 2 cds of early British jazz/dance music for £1.27 too."

  13. When I burnt the "The Young Vic" Esquire LP to CDR, I added these tracks at the start to paint a more complete picture of the young Victor Feldman, and I have therefore listened more closely to them now.

I must say that the original Gramophone review cited at the online Feldman discography linked above is far too dismissive of Victor's elder brothers Robert and Monty. They acquit themselves well, and are clearly talented too, although they seem to have chosen non-musical paths later.

Lord lists one session from 1970 with a Robert Feldman playing sax, so I suppose it could be the same guy as the clarinetist here.

The liner notes to the Esquire LP mention that Monty was also deceased by the time of its release (1987), so he cannot have gotten that old either, unfortunately.
