Features a couple of old boppers with some of the newer musicians playing a programme of the old favourites before an enthusiastic audience (well, they're usually all drunk) at the Ealing Jazz Festival in 2001. It's really a re-creation of the Bebop Preservation Society, so you know what to expect.
Bill Le Sage plays piano throughout here and the recording was produced for Bill's own label.
Steve Waterman - trumpet
Gilad Atzmon - alto
Bill Le Sage - piano
Laurence Cottle - bass guitar
Bill Eyden - drums

Thank you delmonico and Rodney - I'm really looking forward to hearing this. Like Peter King, Gilad Atzmon is a serious Charlie Parker disciple. I saw him a couple of years ago performing a recreation of "Parker With Strings" and was very impressed. Several tracks on "In Loving Memory Of America" feature him with a string quartet playing Parker material - well worth a listen.
ReplyDeleteNice update of the old BPS - many thanks.

ReplyDeleteUsed to see Atzmon playing regularly in the Ship in Rochester, Kent, many moons ago - before he got 'famous' - so it will be interesting to hear this set. Thanks Delmonico and Rodney.
