0539 The Temperance Seven [From The Balls Pond Road Cocoa Rooms] FLAC (24-48) 12(36.44)

Contributed by Dave_Bruce, who writes:-
A 'budget label' compilation of Temperance Seven hits from 1961-64 produced by George Martin. The band and its music have to speak for themselves - you either like them or you don't.

  2. Interesting and welcome post. Thanks. Whispering Paul McDowell lives just down the road from me at Ashton (Northamptonshire) and although now quite an old chap, he is nevertheless still sprightly (being married to a somewhat younger girl). Not sure he does any singing now - he is a Tai Chi instructor.

  6. I'm delighted that folk like the LP, another cleaned-up waif from a charity shop. Sadly, I never saw the group but my partner did - in (as here) its early-60s pomp in Cardiff. (You can't have everything.) She recalls that they were superb performers and great entertainers. BTW, according to Wiki, Paul McDowell was originally a trombone player. I presume the "Whispering" bit was a tribute to Whispering Jack Smith.

  7. thanks for T7, first and best 'retro' band. superb musicians here, Howard, Cooper, DAVIES. not pastiche as later retro bands but intelligent revivalism. earliest is best but the vocals could teeter into parody. was/is fine Lake albums .JRTD's engineering was more labour of love than career.
