  2. Getting this error with dropbox

    Error (509)
This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!

    1. Yes, and Rapidshare has turned into an unworkable site because of restrictions to casual users. Currently telling me it will take 3 hours 15 mins to download this week's posting!

    2. You can register with a free account and get a slightly better download speed but even that's pretty hopeless.

    1. It certainly seems so although perhaps one of our francophone members can confirm from the announcements? My knowledge of that great language is not up to the task unfortunately.

  4. Thanks jazzandylan and Rodney. Good period for the Dankworth band so always good to hear.

  5. Yes, thanks very much for the post. Eventually managed to get it with RS but I hope Dropbox can be sorted.

    1. Maybe MailBigFile would be better? I'm surprised that enough traffic has been generated here on just one post to exceed the limit. MBF is limited to 14 days but no restriction on number of downloads in that time I believe. Latecomers will have to be satisfied with RS. I could forget about DB then.

    2. Seems to be a problem with the DB account? Previous post/s have the same message.

  6. Thanks very much for the Dankworth and I'll have to suffer through RS as always.

    1. I can put up a Zippy link if Rodney agrees

    2. Now there's a thought. I like all the posts to conform to my template but if you wouldn't mind posting my rar file(s?) there then that would give more choice for downloaders. What restrictions on time etc?

RS works fine for those who pay I think but I can certainly understand the objections, having been there myself. Only since getting RapidDrive, after re-joining, has it been working smoothly for me. I get 1.5MB steady, downloading.

    3. Not really sure how long they stay up but I think if they don't get a download for about 14 days they get deleted. Anyway, here's a link for this one

    4. Seems very popular, this Zippy. I dislike the place with it's captchas and malware advertising popups but do use it quite often now as it's fast - frequently no choice anyway.

So yours is a free post then, jazzuk? I could post there too I suppose but I reckon I'm doing enough uploading, providing two choices. Please feel free to provide an extra Zippy link whenever you like. Can you monitor the number of downloads?

I will continue to upload to RS as the "permanent" link, despite it's unpopularity, and also now to MailBigFile for the short-term alternative. See how it goes.

MBF has a small amount of space for longer than 14 days so I'll try that.

    5. You probably can't get a 'permanent' link anywhere unless you have a paid account. No, you can't monitor downloads with a free upload at Zippy. MBF should be ok for an alternative I would have thought. I'll glady supply a Zippy link whenever I can. No problem to re-up on request (via cbox) when that expires anyway.

  7. I have a 'free' RS account registered and it only took around 25m to download the Dankworth. I suppose it depends on your d/l speed and even location. Don't think RS is at fault.

    1. Thanks to jazzuk,

I tried RS, it indicated 3 hours for the DL. Then I tried zippyshare and it took 3 minutes. Now I'll listen and will provide a translation for the non-francophone

    2. I assume it's from a BBC French Service ("From London, the BBC (la BéBéCé) presents ...)

    3. For info, there was a BBC French services aimed at France from WW II to 1995.

  10. Now that is interesting. Many thanks to rodney, jazzanddylan and jazzuk. And btw Zippy worked fine for me. I've split from R'share so I'm really out in the cold. Let us hope Zippy lasts. Have you tried Mega NZ?

  11. @aroonie. The idea of RS is to give long-lasting links. The current plan is to provide also MailBigFile links which should last a while and have no download restrictions. Download speed has reportedly been good, for some anyway.

Jazzuk has kindly offered to upload to Zippy - see above. If you want him to, you can say so in C-Box. I know I could upload to Zippy but I'm already doing two separate uploads for each item and of course uploading does take a lot longer, no matter where.

I'm sure there's lots of better ways of doing things - everyone has their favourite places - but it's always shifting sands. I don't know Mega NZ but I'm hoping that most people without paid for RS will find MBF okay. I'm now using a facility there to prolong the life of the links a bit. Latecomers will have to be satisfied with RS - at least it does get there in the end - or try jazzuk's kind offer.

    1. Thanks Rodney - taken on board and understood. I've tried Mega NZ and found them OK but the downloading is a little bizarre. Try it out sometime. Keep that music swinging............................aroonie

    2. The only problem I have with Mega is that it seems to use a hell of a lot of pc system resources.

    3. Hmmm - "bizarre" - "resources" - 'nuff said. I have tried a toe in the water uploading to Zippy and it seems okay (over on Jazzman). Still, I think the RS with MBF might be okay. Trying it for a while and leave the Zippy to you, jazzuk, if you think it will help. On both blogs okay? Snag with Zippy is the 200MB limit - inconvenient.

    4. I'm sure MBF will be ok for all. Zippy's available if anyone wants.
