0173 Tony Crombie [Jazz At The Flamingo Vol 1] FLAC 2(15.42)

A small band led by Tony Crombie who composed both tunes heard here. The first of three eps in this Flamingo series  and this one featuring the two tenors of Don Rendell and Tommy Whittle.
Benny Green, who later enjoyed a successful career as jazz writer, reviewer and broadcaster is heard on baritone sax. He played with various Ronnie Scott groups between 1952 and 1956 but took few solos.
One further title recorded at this session by this group, and also composed by Tony Crombie, has previously appeared on this blog as part of the 'Jazz At The Flamingo' lp.

  4. Many thanks Bluebird and BritJazz yet again. Has anyone noticed that the tracks are wrongly labelled (according to the sleeve notes)?

    Tres Gai should be the slow tune and Jump the swinger. Unless Esquire got it wrong!

  5. Well spotted, aroonie - thanks. Solo order confirms but the mention of Jump for Jeff being nearly eight minutes is confusing because neither tune is that. The titles on the front page will be changed momentarily although we will have to leave it up to you all to change after download if you wish.

  6. The story behind the reversed titles is that the original ep had the labels reversed on issue. There were no other vinyl issues.
    When the cd was re-issued the wrong order remained and obviously the compilers didn't spot that the tunes didn't follow the solo order listed in the sleeve notes.
    Neither did I. Must try harder.
