0022 Tony Kinsey [Fascinating Rhythm] FLAC 13(45.03)
Contributed by Rodney and Bluenote97
Culled from recordings made at British Decca in Hampstead in the mid 1950's, these 12 sides feature 8 that were originally issued as two 7" EPs. That leaves 4 more that were hitherto unreleased in this country. An astonishingly gifted musician of his time (and still, we're delighted to say, going strong!), these hugely rare and thoroughly enjoyable recordings, which have been stunningly restored, will shed a big spotlight onto an under-appreciated musician and the rest of tightly trained musicians. Respected jazz writer Peter Vacher, who has recently interviewed Tony, has written highly informative notes to go along with this significant release. Harkit.2006

Thank you again and again for this one
I really don't understand why I've never seen this CDs on the french market (in fact, I know, and it's unbearable). I think, no I know now, that you are contributing to something exceptional for spreading english jazz, at least for us the french aficionados
Bhowani - thanks for your support. We do encompass all British jazz BTW, not only English (condemn me as a pedant if you wish :-D), and would like to spread that net as wide as possible I think.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to thank you for this album ( and more Joe Harriott! ) and for keeping this great music alive. You're doing a grand job.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Kinsey !!!

Really amazing things you have.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where to go to ask but do you have any idea where I could go to find the following ny Tony Kinsey Quartet:
Stompin' At The Savoy / China Boy
Moonglow / One o' Clock Jump
My copies got broken in the early 60s.
Any help appreciated
Woody - Funny you should mention it! We have a project on the blocks to post here an item comprising as many of the Tony Kinsey quintets and quartets tracks as we can but excluding those already posted (Fascinating Rhythm). It will include Stompin' at the Savoy and China Boy which 78 we acquired recently. The other 78 is firmly on our wants list but no sign of it so far. As well as Moonglow and One O'Clock Jump, we are studiously seeking:-

Our Love is Here to Stay Decca F10812 October 23 1956
Last two Rosemary Squires with Tony Kinsey.
If anyone can help with these we would very much like to hear from you but intend to post what we have so far quite soon. If any of the missing tracks do become available, we can add later.
Thanks for the update. Will keep a close eye on any news.
